Twins Christening

What a fantastic day we all had.

 

It certainly was a manic morning making sure that everything was ready and yes my nerves did go once I got busy!

 

Unfortunately the rain was still pouring once we were all ready to go so we had to dash the children to the car and I had to dodge the puddles in my heels. Since having the twins the heels very rarely come out anymore, but I managed!

 

The twins looked beautiful in their new outfits and Joseph looked so grown up. I was an extremely proud mummy.

 

The local vicar is a very eccentric man, and really quite comical in his ways. People actually compared him to a scene from Four Weddings and a Funeral or Mr. Bean!

 

When we all arrived and were ready for the service he had to do a couple of dashes back to his room after forgetting a couple of things. He also asked more than once what the twins full names were. Some people may have felt disappointed by this but we found it highly entertaining and there were many giggles afterwards.

 

The twins behaved well considering it was a lot of talking. They did keep on doing dashes between us and their grandparents, munched on breadsticks and in Isabella's case, kept shouting no!

She just so happened to shout no during the part of the ceremony when the vicar was asking everyone to renounce the devil! Which made us chuckle!

 

Thankfully they didn't scream or cry when they were blessed with the cross on their foreheads.

 

Next it was to the font for the baptism.

 

This is the part I was most nervous about, this is when I was expecting screaming and crying.

When the vicar got the water ready it was not as we had expected.

The water came out of a Thermos flask and was hot! Then came a second flask of cooler water! Before he baptised the twins he asked Joseph to did in his finger to check that it wasn't too hot for the twins! Joseph's finger was blessed!

 

First it was Taylor's turn. Hubby was holding Taylor and he held him over the font.

There were no screams or cries from Taylor, on the contrary, he loved it. He was oooing and arrring after each wetting of the water!

 

Next I held Isabella over the font for her turn. This was a different matter completely, we got the squeals and cries that I was expecting.

But she did get an absolute soaking!

Bless her because she was fidgeting so much it went down her neck and all in her face!

Thankfully she soon calmed down once it was done.

 

Once the formal part was over it was back to my parents for the celebration.

 

The buffet looked lovely. Between us we had managed to have sandwiches, quiche, chicken drumsticks, salad, sausage rolls, pork pies, Scotch eggs, nibbles galore and puddings!

The Christening cupcakes that I made and decorated looked great set out on the cake stand. I was so proud of both mums and myself, we had managed to cater for everyone with food left over and we did it all on a small budget!

It was lovely to have all of the people that are closest to us in the one place and we feel so grateful that everyone came together for us.

 

The twins got some beautiful gifts from people and had a lovely time running back and forth, they did not stop all afternoon!

 

Needless to say that come bed time they were well and truly ready for sleep. Come to think of it we all were!

The Christening Day Is Here

The twins big day has arrived!
Today they are getting Christened.
Today is going to be such a busy day so whilst the hubby is still in bed I thought I'd get a quick post written.
I have got so many jobs to do this morning, the majority being food related which I love. I have got the christening buns to ice, salad to prepare, potatoes to cook and bread to make for pack ups next week for hubby and Joseph.
Then there are also clothes to iron, children to get ready as well as myself to get ready!
Oh just thinking of what needs to be done this morning my stomach is starting to do turns.
I am actually feeling nervous now.
I know that everything will be done. My mum and mother in law are helping with the buffet and my mother in law is coming over early to help look after the kiddies while I get my jobs done.
I think my excitement has turned to nerves because today means so much to me and I just want the day to run perfectly.
Unfortunately we have woken up to a wet dreary day so we won't be walking to church, but that's not important.
I am a bit worried about the twins reaction to it all. There is going to be quite a few people there. We have only invited family so there won't be unknown people apart from the vicar!
As I posted on my 5 Things post, I need to stop stressing and enjoy the day!
On that note I'm going to stop rambling on now and get the kiddies fed so I can get my catering head on!

No Broadband!

Disaster!!!
What am I going to do???
We have no internet connection!!!
We live in a village which has become a hot spot for cable theft. This has happened numerous times in the past which usually results in us being cut off for two weeks. So for the time being I am relying on my mobile data package, which isn't much!
Therefore if I go quiet, you know why!
Before it has been annoying but I wasn't blogging last time we lost our lines. Now I am I have become even more involved in social media and am noticing the loss already. Its only been 1 day!
Hubby laughs and says I'll be going into withdrawal soon!
What is even more annoying is that the cable thieves can't be very bright, we don't have copper cables anymore, they are fibre optic cables! Last time the police found them all dumped in a field because they are worthless!
Anyway, rant over, for now!
This week I have a christening to plan and am getting excited.
I have decided to make cupcakes as opposed to a big cake. I have ordered pink and blue christening cupcakes toppers to decorate them with.
The children's outfits are all ready. We have finalised everything with the reverend who will be holding the service.
I know what food we are serving, it just needs preparing. Most of the food will need preparing fresh on the morning.
We are just about there and will have proved that you do not need to spend a small fortune to have a lovely day.

At Last A Good Night!

At last a full nights sleep!
I have got to say, the twins have more than redeemed themselves. They not only slept all night, they also slept in until 7am!
That never happens!
I couldn't believe it when I looked at the clock.
Today we have got a few things to do but not much.
At the moment I am watching Joseph swimming!
Yes I am multi tasking!
I am watching and blogging. Admittedly, normally, I just blog but this week Joseph has moved from the intermediate group into the advanced group. I can see a huge improvement in his swimming. He is doing so well and I am sat here grinning with pride!
After swimming I am going to do a spot of scrumping! I am making some fresh strawberry and plum jam this morning. I have the strawberries but need to get some plums. Luckily my parents have an abundance of plums in their orchard!
We are also having a visit from the Reverend who will be Christening the twins next weekend. I cannot believe how quick it has come round. I never did manage to get the invitations done after all. So, as it is only family that are coming, I sent everyone a message as an invite. Money saved there! My job this week will be organising the catering. We are going to do the catering between both mums and myself. A light buffet of sandwiches, sausage rolls, salad and cakes won't cost too much. Just writing this, I can feel myself getting excited, it is going to be a lovely special day!
This afternoon my challenge is going to be making my first suet pudding. Hubby has requested a jam roly poly. Hence why I am making some fresh jam this morning!
I an looking forward to our regular Saturday night with my parents, who get home from their holiday today. I am very close to my parents and miss them a lot when they go away!
This is our plan for the day, along with play time with the kids and the odd house and garden job for good measure!

Twins Christening on a Budget!

After the horribly difficult and upsetting two weeks it is now time for me to focus on something positive. Something to be happy about and to celebrate as a family.
The twins christening!!!
I am now starting to feel excited and daunted about their special day. We put off their christening for various reasons.
I do have my beliefs and have a strong faith. However I do not practice my faith, I do not regularly attend church or regularly pray but I do believe there is a god watching over us and I do believe that there is a place for us when we leave this world. I get comfort from my beliefs. However hubby hasn't been too sure about it. Another influencing factor was the village school that the twins will go to. It has very strong links with the village church and they do regular community services. Also Joseph was christened when he was a baby and both me and hubby are christened so I didn't want the twins to not be.
After quite a bit of persuasion hubby agreed for us to arrange a christening and made me a very happy mummy and wife.
Before the summer holidays I arranged a date, 13th October. We have chose who will be the twins God parents and that's about as far as we have got! At the time it felt like we had a long time to arrange everything. Then all of our priorities changed. Grandads health deteriorated and I completely forgot about the christening.
Now that we have laid my grandad to rest it is nice to have something positive to focus on.
Now I can start to plan!
We are holding the christening on a tight budget. We cannot afford to take everyone out for a fancy meal afterwards so we are going to try and cater for it ourselves to keep the cost down. I have looked at invitations when I have been out but, surprisingly not, I have not seen any twin christening invitations. To buy these, as all twin items, they are more expensive. So to save a bit more money I am going to design an invitation so it will be exactly what we want. This is the first job that I need to get cracking on with. The christening is in 4 weeks!
My jobs after the invitations have been sent will be to find outfits for all 3 children, decided what food to serve, decided on what cake to have and what puddings to serve!!!
Luckily I won't have to do it all my own, Im sure that hubby, my mum and mother in law will be there to help as much as they can.
I do know that we have got a lot to do over the following 4 weeks but we will make it a lovely day for our families.
