Cheap Budget Meal - Chilli Meatball Pasta

I love to use mince beef in our meals. It is so quick and easy to prepare. It is not only great for cottage pie or bolognese but also great to make meatballs, meatloaf and homemade burgers.

This week I have taken a chilli burger idea and made it into a chilli meatball dish. With this recipe you can make either.

This is what I did...

Chilli Meatball Pasta

Ingredients

500g lean mince beef (£4)
1 red onion, chopped (19p)
1/2 red chilli, seeds removed and chopped (15p)
150g button mushrooms, quartered (65p)
1 green pepper (79p)
2 garlic cloves, crushed (25p)
430g tomato passata with basil (89p)
Pasta (29p)
Oregano
Worcester sauce

Method

1 - Place the mince beef in a large mixing bowl and add half of the chopped onion, red chilli, 1 teaspoon of oregano and a good glug of Worcester sauce.

2 - Using your hands combine all of the ingredients and shape the meatballs.

3 - Heat a large frying pan and dry fry the meatballs over a medium heat until browned off.

4 - Cook the pasta as per instructions.

5 - Add the remaining onions, mushrooms, garlic, green pepper and 1 teaspoon of oregano to the pan and cook for 5 minutes.

6 - Pour over the passata and cook for a further 10 minutes before serving with the pasta.

These meatballs have a real kick to them thanks to the chilli, if you like more of a mild dish reduce the amount of chilli. This is a great meal which the whole family are sure to enjoy!

I made this meal for just £7.21. That is just £1.44 per serving.

Enjoy x
