I love cooking a meal for a get together with family.
Once upon a time, it would have been a dinner party, but now that we have children a dinner party for us is getting the family around a table and enjoying a meal together.
I love sitting down and deciding what meal I am going to cook for everyone. Having children it means that the meal must be one that does not take too much preparation and time. Our family get togethers are usually at the weekend which is valuable family time together.
My ultimate dinner party would consist of the hubby and I with our children and parents. I would host the party in our home. It would be a relaxed dinner party where the food would be child friendly, there would be plenty of laughs and quality time spent together. Time with family is so important, not just for us but for the children as well.
When I cook a large meal I have a tendency to use every pan available and do make a mess! There are always plenty of pots to clean. When hosting a dinner party you do not want to waste time cleaning pots. This is where Finish dishwasher detergents can help. Regardless of whether the pots have been cleaned straight away or if they have been left out all night, with dried on food, you can guarantee that they will come out of the dishwasher clean first time.
To really put Finish to the test I decided to make one of our family favourites that does make plenty of pots to wash!
This is my Sweet Potato Cottage Pie...
Sweet Potato Cottage Pie
Ingredients
450g lean mince beef
1 onion. chopped
1 stick of celery, chopped
1 broccoli, cut into small florets
100g sweetcorn
100g peas
3 med carrots, chopped into cubes
2 parsnips, cut into cubes
500mls beef stock
Gravy granules
4 lg sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped
1 tbsp butter
Black pepper
50g cheddar cheese, cut into cubes
Method
1 - Pre heat the oven to 200C
2 - Bring a pan of water to the boil and add the sweet potato, simmer for 15 minutes or until the sweet potato is soft enough to mash
3 - While the sweet potatoes are cooking place the meat, onion and celery in a large saute pan over a medium to high heat for 10 minutes
4 - Add the sweetcorn, carrots, peas, parsnip and broccoli to the pan and cook for 5 minutes
5 - Pour over the beef stock and bring to the boil
6 - Once the sweet potatoes are soft, drain and mash
7 - Stir in the butter and a sprinkling of black pepper according to taste
8 - Sprinkle over the meat some gravy granules to thicken up the stock
9 - Pour the meat mixture into a casserole dish and top with the sweet potato mash
10 - Scatter over the cubes of cheese
11- Place in the centre of the pre heated oven and bake for 20 - 30 minutes or until the gravy sauce is bubbling and the cheese has thoroughly melted and serve!
This is a meal is sure to be a hit with the whole family. The children will love it as will the adults, especially now that the season is changing.
Many of the pots were washed on the night, but a couple did get left over. I knew that my casserole dish, that had baked on food, would be a great test for Finish. I also had a cup that Joseph had left out with dried on hot chocolate. Another great way to check out the cleaning power of Finish was by seeing how it would cope with a glass that has been used for a smoothie. In the past I have found that cheaper dishwasher products have left the glasses cloudy and not fully clean.
I was delighted with the results after using Finish Performance Enhancing Dishwasher Salt, Quantum Max Shine and Protect, Dishwasher Cleaner and Rinse Aid. The glass pots came out crystal clean with no smeary streak marks. All of the pots had a fantastic clean shine to them. Along with the clean pots was the lovely scent of the apple and lime dishwasher pods.
Since trying Finish I have been converted. It really is worth spending the extra cost to get a quality product. The cheaper supermarket one really are false economy as there have been many times that I have had to rewash pots due to them not coming out clean. The Finish products even work when using a quick economy wash! I would thoroughly recommend switching to Finish. Carry on reading to see how you can see the great results for yourself!
Getting pots clean first time makes life so much easier. Come on, who really does enjoy washing pots? No body! Instead of spending your time rewashing pots you should be spending time with your family creating memories!
