Alioli Fish Feast Paired with Le Petit Ballon Bordeaux Blanc Sec

Now that I have told you all about Le Petit Ballon let me show you what I paired the wine with and share with you a delicious fish feast that is full of fish, fresh vegetables and tasty alioli.

After reading the tasting notes that come with each bottle of wine from Le Petit Ballon I knew that I could chose from the following foods:
  • Grilled white meat
  • Fresh fish, fried or steamed
  • Courgette gratin
  • Cheeses
I decided to go with the fresh fish and added in some courgette from the courgette gratin. This is a meal that is served on a platter dish, placed in the centre of the table so that everyone can dig in. This is a social meal that when paired with the wine makes a perfect meal for entertaining!

This is what I did...

Alioli Fish Feast

Ingredients

400g cod fillet
200g king prawns
1 courgette, cut into ribbons
1 candy beetroot, thinly sliced
100g watercress
300g new potatoes, cubed
1 sweet potato, cubed
2 carrots, sliced and quartered
1 head of broccoli, cut into florets
150g green beans
Handful of samphire
Olive oil

Alioli Ingredients

2 egg yolks
4 garlic cloves
1tsp wholegrain mustard
7tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper

Method

1 - Place the chopped potatoes, sweet potato cubes and carrots into a pan of boiling water and simmer for 15 minutes

2 - Heat a glug of olive oil in a saute pan and add the cod and king prawns, cover and cook over a medium heat for 10 minutes

3 - Place the broccoli florets and green beans into the pan with the potatoes and carrots and simmer for 5 minutes

4 - To make the alioli place the egg yolks, garlic cloves, mustard, extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper into a blender and blitz until you have a smooth dressing

5 - Drain the vegetables and place on a platter serving dish

6 - Top with the watercress, beetroot, courgette and a few pieces of samphire followed by a drizzle of alioli

7 - Finally top with the cod and king prawns, some more alioli and samphire to decorate

This meal is a deliciously light meal that goes perfectly with this wine. The warm vegetables and fish around the thin strips of courgette and beetroot mean they do not need to be cooked and add an amazing crunch to the dish.

Whether you chose to enjoy this with friends and family, do not forget to add the wine. Trust me it will transform your eating and drinking experience!

You will probably find you even have enough vegetables leftover for a yummy lunch the next day!

  7. You had me at "aioli" and "fish". And "Feast". This looks just amazing: I love that you serve it family-style with the La Petit Ballon wine. It's been ages since I drank a Bordeaux Blanc: I think it's high time that I try it again!

  8. I would leave the prawns out (I'm allergic to them ) but every thing else would still make a fabulous dish I would love to eat.
