Word of the Week - 6th February 2015

Without a shadow of doubt this weeks Word of the Week has to be...

This little lady is Opie and she is going to be the latest addition to our family.

Last Sunday we decided to go and look at some rescue dogs at the local RSPCA shelter. The hubby has wanted a dog for as long as we have been together but I always said no. However after it was brought up again last weekend I said we could go and take a look. We saw a lovely Akita who we took for a walk but he really was too big. But while we were there we were told that they had some puppies who we could see from Thursday. So all week we have been thinking about what to do, looking at other dogs, researching puppy facts and doing our sums to see what everything will cost. On Wednesday we made the decision that we wanted to go and see the puppies and reserve one if we found the right puppy.

On Thursday I dropped the twins off at my mother in laws and set off to look at the puppies. It was quite a nervous but exciting journey there. I just kept thinking, will I find the perfect dog for us, will they still be available, questions were going round and round in my head. When I arrived I was told that they had some more puppies taken in since Sunday and now had 16 puppies to look at! I was directed to where they were and had a look. We knew that we wanted a little girl so I didn't want to get my hopes up until I was told which ones were girls but this little lady had already caught my eye. I was delighted when I was told that she was a little girl! I had a cuddle, she had a sniff and nestled into my neck and kept licking me so I took that as a sign that she was happy with me too. After I completed all of the paper work I had another cuddle and fell in love with her. I really did not want to give her back but as she is still only 7 weeks she needs another check up with the vets next Tuesday before she can come home. We also need to have a home visit from the RSPCA to check that our house is suitable for a dog. Then I should be able to pick her up and bring her home on Thursday.

This weekend is going to be all about the final preparations for Opie. So far we have ordered her tag and cage. On Sunday we are going Opie shopping for food, bowls, puppy pads, a collar, lead, toys and a bed.

We are all so excited about her coming home, especially me, the person who originally said no to a dog for so long.

Opie has certainly dominated our thoughts this week, that is why Opie is my Word of the Week.

I am sharing my Word of the Week with the lovely Jocelyn from The Reading Residence and the lovely Heledd from Running In Lavender as My Captured Moment as this was the first time that I saw Opie properly out of the cage she was in. I am also introducing Opie to Eco-Gites - Animal Tales as I am sure she will feature in pictures a lot more!

  2. She is gorgeous! I never really wanted a dog either but now we have ours I wouldn't part with her. One word of caution, don't let your tiny puppy sleep in your room when it cries on the first night. Years down the line you will still be sharing a bed but your puppy will take up more room than you!!! Hope it all goes well xx

  9. Aww, so cute. We absolutely love our hairy baby (not so much of a hairy baby now that she's three, but Tin Box Dog will always be our first child). I can't recommend puppy socialisation classes enough. Find your local one - the whole family will love it and you will reap the rewards for years to come! #MyCapturedMoment

  13. Oh my Gosh! She is a little stunner!! I am owner of 2 terrorists (cats) who own and run the home! Honestly!

It is amazing to read stories like that! I can tell you are going to be amazing owners! I hate when people buy animals from Gumtree or other sources for xmas etc and then trying to sell due to allergies etc.

If I can be any help. I am not sure if you have any other animals but I can recommend zooplus.co.uk You will save money with them. If you are looking for a good food then read labels of food. Don't listen to vets saying Royal Canin or Iams are good. They not. They contain less than 5% of meat. I am trying to feed my cats with food that contains min 70% of meat Applaws, Animonda Carne) etc. for example Applaws in Pets at Home cost £18-19 (expensive) for 1,5kg where the same package cost £12 in Zooplus. On top of that in Zooplus you can collect points like in Boots and change them into food, toys etc.check them out and see if you like. I have account with then and I can send you £10% discount voucher. You are talking to serious cat lady here haha ;))All best, Anna
