We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So why not make it more interesting and delicious. It is so easy to get lazy with breakfast and settle for a bowl of cereal or a slice of toast. In this post I am going to show you how you can revamp your breakfast with just a little effort the night before and with deliciously sweet Jazz apples.
Jazz apples are originally from New Zealand but they are now grown all over the world. From UK growers to South American orchards! They are such a crisp, sweet apple that is so full of flavour and can be used in a wide range of dishes or enjoyed as it is. Today I am sharing with you an easy compote that will be the base to so many sweet dishes. I have so many planned but today is all about breakfast!
This is what I did...
Ingredients - Serves 2
Compote
4 Jazz apples
1 cinnamon stick
2 star anise
50mls water
50g dried mix fruit with candied peel
Breakfast pot
40g oats
10g chia seeds
Yogurt
Maple syrup
Method
1 - Peel and chop the Jazz apples and place in a saucepan
2 - Add the water, cinnamon stick and star anise
3 - Place the pan over a medium heat and bring to a gentle boil
4 - Reduce the heat, cover the pan and leave to simmer for 5 minutes
5 - Remove the lid, stir and add the dried mixed fruit
6 - Cover the pan and simmer for a further 10 minutes then remove from the heat
7 - To prepare the breakfast pots mix together the oats and chia seeds
8 - Spoon a layer of the cool Jazz apple compote into two jars, followed by a layer of the oats and chia seeds, then yogurt, followed by a final layer of fruit and a sprinkling of oats
9 - Seal the jar and leave in the fridge until the morning
When using Jazz apples there is no need to add any sugar when stewing as they are such a sweet variety and combined with the spices they make a scrumptious compote.
In the coming weeks I am planning to use the compote recipe to make apple crumble and to even add it to a cake so keep an eye out for further recipes!
Enjoy x
Pin me for later!
It sounds delicious and I love the way that breakfast is all ready in the morning! I don't think I've tried jazz apples but I have a terrible habit of buying apples then leaving them in the fruit bowl until they are too wrinkly to eat as I actually much prefer cooked apples to eating them raw!
ReplyDeleteYum... love the sound of this...especially that you have used star anise in your compote...that's one of my favourite flavours!! Eb x
