3rd March - 9th March 2014 - One Picture Everyday for One Year

This week, as always has been a busy one.
We've had days in the garden, one poorly day and lots of cooking and baking! Hence all of the foodie pictures!

Monday 3rd March 2014



 

On Monday it was Joseph's parents evening. Overall I was really pleased with how he is doing. There are a couple of areas we need to work on but they came as no surprise. But his teacher did say that he is "above average". To be honest as long as Joseph is happy and doing well I am happy. It was good to have the chance to see some of the work that he has been doing at school.

Yay Pancake Day! After forgetting pancake day once before I will never forget it again! This year we all enjoyed pancakes, the twins included!

 

Wednesday 5th March 2014

 

 

 

As this week was Pie Week I had to bake a pie! This pie was both delicious and cheap to make so I will be sharing it next week for my cheap budget recipe! I also had Joseph at home poorly so not a great deal was done apart from baking and looking after the kiddies.

On Thursday we had a busy morning out doing the shopping. After our busy morning out the twins were sat having a snack and I just had to get this picture. They really are growing and changing so much. They are such characters and I love how they interact together. But they really are not babies anymore and it's pictures like this that really make me look and wonder where the time has gone!

Friday turned into a beautiful day. After a wet, grey start the day completely changed and the twins managed to get some time in the garden. They both love being outside and whenever they get the chance they're off!

Another foodie picture I'm afraid! We had an evening enjoying some Spanish flavours. These flavours trigger a lot of memories for me after living in Gran Canaria for nearly 7 years. We enjoyed patatas bravas, tuna and olive empanadas, jamon serrano, cheeses and of course rioja wine!

Wow what a lovely day it is! The twins got Mickey and Minnie sit ons for their birthday and are loving being outside. As it is so warm we are going to enjoy the first BBQ of the year. Yes, we are actually having a BBQ in March! I had planned a Sunday roast but as the sun has graced us with its presence it would be rude to not make the most of it, so the roast can wait until tomorrow!

24th February - 2nd March 2014 - One Picture Everyday for One Year

This week has been full of outdoor play. It is so liberating to be able to go out in the fresh air without getting either wet or blown away!
I am also pleased to say that, at last, we are getting back to our usual healthy, bug free selves!
Joseph went back to school on Monday so this week we have been getting back into our weekly routine.

Monday 24th February 2014

 

 

Monday was a day full of jobs. I spent the whole day cleaning and doing housework. After being ill and having the hubby home I put chores to one side so that we could spend some quality time together, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. It just meant more work trying to catch up, but it was worth it. It wasn't until the kiddies were all in bed and I sat down, I realised I had not taken a single picture! So for all of my hard work I treated myself to some of the delicious Hanley's chocolate that the hubby got me for Valentines day!

At last, a sunny day! This morning, after we had taken Joseph to school, the twins explored the garden and enjoyed their new found freedom! When it was time to go in, it took a lot of persuading and after a tantrum, and a little longer in the garden, I managed to get them inside. These two are going to love playing outside, just as their big brother did at that age.

As soon as we got back from the morning school run the twins wanted to be out in the garden again. At last we have some signs that spring is just round the corner. Isabella found the daffodils today and kept shouting excitedly "Look! Mummy! Flowers!" she'd run up to the daffodil, sniff it, say "Urrrrr" run off, then do it all over again!

The twins got these colour matching activity boards for Christmas which we put away. When I was getting them both ready for bed on Thursday night Isabella found the peg board and brought it over saying "this mummy". When they had their pj's on and we were waiting for hubby to bring the milk up I sat with her while she had a go. I was astounded that on her first go, she knew where each and every peg went without me needing to tell her or correct her! I can't believe how much they are growing. They really are coming on in leaps and bounds!

The twins are certainly growing in confidence! After trying all week, on Friday, they mastered climbing up the steps, sitting down and sliding down the slide on their own. There really is no stopping them now!

 

Saturday 1st March 2014


 

 

 

While I was out with Joseph in the morning I received the picture of the twins from hubby. These days it is so hard to get them to both stand still together for a photograph. This picture made my heart fill with pride and even though I didn't take it, I had to share it!
All 5 of us enjoyed some garden time on Saturday afternoon. Hubby started doing some gardening jobs and tidying up after the winter while I played with the kids and snapped lots of pictures! When Joseph saw that the twins could do the slides on their own he couldn't resist joining in which was lovely to see. He is such a great big brother and really does dote on them! They certainly think the world of him too!

This week, my Silent Sunday picture, really does sum up our week. Lots of out door play and new experiences for the twins! For their birthday one of their auntie and uncles bought them a sand and water table. Hubby put it all together for them and filled one half with sand. They loved it! Their hands were in and the spades were out. When the weather gets warmer they will also love the water but for now they are having so much fun with the sand!

 

We have had such a lovely week and have been lucky to have more spring like weather. I am just hoping that it is here to stay as I now have twins that want to be outside at every available opportunity!

17th February - 23rd February 2014 - One Picture Everyday for One Year

This hasn't been the best week for us.
The week started off with all of us being ill, and this meant when I was really ill, I missed a days picture!
I have also decided to not follow the daily prompts.
They were fun to start with but then ended up being prompts that didn't suit our day or I felt weren't relevant to us, so I have given up!
My pictures are going to go back to what we do and our days, which is the reason why I started to take a picture a day, to record our year!

Monday 17th February 2014

 

Taylor was the first to get poorly at the end of last week he was well and truly ready to get out for some fresh air now he was feeling better. As Isabella, Joseph and hubby were all poorly and I needed to go shopping I decided to take Taylor out with me. Having 3 children, twins in particular, it is so rare that I get chance to go out and spend time on my own with just one of them so this was a real treat for both Taylor and myself.

On Tuesday I was out for the count!

I started being ill Monday evening and was up and down all night. Thankfully hubby managed to finish work early and my mum came down and had the children for me. Thanks to the sickness bug I missed a day for my year in pictures! However I took more during the week in an attempt to make up for it!

On Wednesday I was still not 100% but had improved a great deal. I was over the moon with a delivery that I received. Our beautiful wedding canvas arrived! After we got married we said that we'd get a canvas done but we found out we were having the twins and shopping for them became our priority! So when I got the chance to review a canvas I immediately knew what picture I'd ask for.

Happy Birthday Isabella and Taylor!

I can't believe that our babies turned 2 this week. I really do not know where the time has gone. As they were still not back to their usual busy selves we decided to have a family day relaxing at home. Hubby had taken a couple of days off so that we had a long weekend together. I still had their birthday cake to make so we decided to postpone their birthday outing until the weekend.

We had a trip into town today and went around the market. Hubby took me to a delicatessen that he likes which is near to his work. It is very rare that we go into town and it made a lovely change. We called into hubbys work to show the children where he works and to show them off a bit! The kids loved it! Hubby works for the library service and the twins were in their element running up and down the book shelves and hiding. The twins birthday cake was also made and all ready to ice on Saturday.

Saturday was the twins day.
We took them, along with their nanna and gran, to an organic farm and play area. They loved being out in the fresh air and seeing the animals. The highlight for Taylor was all of the tractors! We even came home with a Peppa and George! We visited the farm shop that was there and came home with lots of treats! We really did have a lovely time. We finished the afternoon off with a little tea party and birthday cake!
The twins finally have their appetites back. It has been a long and worrying week. They really have not been themselves and have turned away when offered any food so to see them want food again was a relief!

 

Sunday 23rd February 2014

 

 

Now that we all have our appetites back, next week we are going to have a really healthy week. Our meals are going to be full of vegetables! I have got a lovely box of fresh vegetables which should build up all of our vitamin levels and get some colour back in our cheeks!

 

This week has been such a mixture of highs and lows but we have had a lovely end to the week. We have celebrated our babies and have had 4 days of quality family time!

I think that I will actually miss the hubby when he goes back to work and we get back into routine of school and housework!

10th February - 16th February 2014 - One Picture Everyday for One Year

This week hasn't been a great week!

We have had poorly twins, I've had poorly parents and now I have a poorly husband!

I also had no oven until Friday, so no baking for me!

This week a lot my pictures have been food related and, as it was Valentines day, love related!

I have to admit that this week I have not stuck to the prompts everyday. This is mainly because I felt that a few of the prompts didn't go with what we were doing on that day or they just did not inspire me.

I am...

I am (was) delighted with the new meal that I cooked on Monday. It will be a recipe that I will be sharing next week as I really do not want to forget how I made it and I think others would enjoy it too! I made Thai Style Sea Bass served with crunchy vegetables, sweet potato, broccoli and a cooling herb dip.

Tuesday 11th February 2014

Tuesdays prompt of the day was "mistake". Thankfully this is something that didn't suit our day.

But I did manage to bake hubby and early Valentines treat! I made him a Valentines Day Suet Pudding which I steamed. I have missed baking so much while my oven has not been working. This pudding not only cured my baking withdrawal but also gave hubby a pudding which I knew he'd love!

Out and About

On Wednesday morning when we were out and about down the garden, before the rain started, I noticed signs that spring is on its way! I'm sure it won't be long until the daffodils are in bloom!

This picture really was the calm before the storm. It got so windy here and we weren't in the area where it was at its strongest. We did loose a couple of ridge tiles and normal tiles off the roof but nothing that can't be fixed.

Perfect

Thursday had been a night that we had been looking forward to for a few weeks now.

Originally the children were going to go and stay with my mum and dad and we were going to have our first child free night in over 2 years! But things changed when my parents heating stopped working and couldn't be fixed until after Thursday.

Our child free night went to a date night and my parents came to babysit for us. We got ready for a lovely romantic meal out. I actually got chance to get dolled up, which only happens on the odd occasion these days! We said good night to the children and set off. However as soon as we got sat down at the table we got a phone call from my dad telling us that my mum had collapsed and was ill. So we rushed back so that they could go home!

Our date night out was now a date night in!

Despite all the messing around we still had a lovely night together as that is what is important, being together!

Heart

Valentines day, like our romantic meal, certainly didn't go as planned!

We were woken up in the night by Taylor being sick. We were up with him from 2:45 and from then on he was sick every half hour bless him. Luckily hubby had taken the day off so he was able to help me with Isabella, who was ok except from waking up with conjunctivitis!

However I was wined and dined in the evening. Hubby cooked me a steak meal which was delicious and spoilt me with a big box of Hanley's chocolates and a bottle of Whitley Neill gin!

Also my oven got fixed!!! Yay!!!

Saturday 15th February 2014

Saturday was another day where the prompt didn't inspire me, but baking did!

Yes I can bake again now that my oven is fixed! So I made my first Fourgasse! I made a garlic and oregano one to go with our dinner.

Sickness update: Now little Isabella has started! So the bug has spoilt yet another planned evening. We had planned to have a family night with Joseph once the twins were in bed and let him have some quality mum and dad time. But no, we had a sicky little lady instead! So we have told Joseph that as it is half term we will be able to do it another night.

Sunday 16th February 2014

Today is another day where the prompt is not going to be happening! Today the prompt is create. Me create at the moment? Not going to happen!

The perfect picture for today is of my new best friend.

Coffee!

I need caffeine today. We had, yet another, awful night. This time it was my hubbys turn to be up and down all night with the sickness.

Am I really going to be able to avoid this bug?

I hope I can as if I get ill, I have to keep going and look after the kiddies.

The twins are still under the weather and Joseph has just gone up to bed with a tummy ache.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me, I think I'm going to need it!

This month I have started to follow some picture prompts.

I decided to do this to challenge myself but I also knew that I wanted to focus the prompts around the children, our family and of course food!

Monday 3rd February 2014

Orange

I have been thinking about some new activities for the twins this prompt gave me an idea!

I am going to make up a colour box every week to help the twins learn and recognise colours.
This week it is orange.
I have found a box and have filled it with orange toys and crepe paper.
Next week I will do them same but with a different colour.

This box has been a hue success over the week and the twins have both been going for the box. Isabella has even been asking for the "orange box".

I left the twins in the room while I put the washing to dry and came back to this mess!

It may be a mess but it looked like they had fun!

Square

We got the twins these stacking boxes for Christmas. They love stacking them up, counting them, then knocking them down. I am amazed by how their counting has come on! They can both confidently count to 10 and I am sure that toys like this have helped to encourage them!

Who knew that utensils could be so much fun!

I gave the twins a whisk and a pastry brush to play with.
I totally underestimated how much they would enjoy looking at them, feeling them and playing with them.

It seems like all we've had recently is wind and rain.

When I took my Josephs swimming this morning he loved watching the ripples that the strong wind was making in the huge puddles!

Detail

My detail is detail on taste!

On Friday my worst nightmare happened. My oven has decided to not heat up! Thankfully we filled out the form for the extra years warranty as it is just over a year old. Hopefully when the engineer comes on Tuesday he can fix it. On Saturday I always bake a cake or a pudding so this week it had to be a non bake dessert. After the success of Burns Night I decided to make another Cranachan but using my own quantities! It was delicious!

This week I have spent a lot of time catching up on jobs that didn't get done when I wasn't feeling well. So nothing exciting has happened. It has been me, the kids and the hubby at home!

Monday 27th January 2014

I love how the twins wait for their daddy to come home. As soon as I tell them that daddy is home, they jump up onto their toy boxes and look out of the window and shout "Daddy, Daddy!" "There he is!" They bang on the window and shout until he comes up the the window to see them! This happens every evening and it fills my heart with love every time they do it!

Our poor little lady fell over on Monday evening and bumped her head.

She was so brave but she had a huge bump and the bruising certainly started to come out on Tuesday bless her!
She was still happy and carried on thankfully x

Isabella makes me giggle so much.

She often does this with books I wonder if she'll be a little book worm like both her dad and I.

We got the twins an Aquadoodle for Christmas but were disappointed to find it only had one pen.

We have finally got round to ordering them an extra pen which arrived the other day.

So on Thursday we have had the Aquadoodle out and they love it!

I knew they would enjoy playing with it but they have enjoyed it more than I thought they would.

It really has kept them amused!

I have two little artists in the making!

I have often wanted to capture the twins together like this.

I love how they share a drink with their straws, especially when they look at each other and giggle together. Even though they argue like mad sometimes, they are never far from each other and are really the best of friends!

My favourite pastime, apart from family time, is baking! This is something I feel passionate about!
I love creating new cakes and trying new flavours!
These are some surprise hidden centre cakes and a first time bake so we'll see how they come out!
