Malteaser Chocolate Malt Cake

I love Malteasers and we surprisingly had an unopened bag from our trip away. However the chocolate had started to melt, so this gave the the perfect excuse to use them for a cake!

This chocolate malt cake combines both of the iconic Malteasers flavour and creates a light moist cake which goes perfectly with the topping!

Malteasers Chocolate Malt Cake

Ingredients

150g baking spread or butter
150g caster sugar
100g self raising flour
25g malt drink powder
25g cocoa powder
3 eggs at room temperature
85g Malteasers
100g softened butter
9tbsp icing sugar
1tbsp cocoa powder

Method

Pre heat the oven to 180C

1 - Place all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix together until they are all evenly combined

2 - Put the mixture into a cake in and place into the pre heated oven and bake for 25 minutes

3 - Once thoroughly baked remove from the tin and leave to cool on a cooling rack

4 - Once the cake is completely cooled prepare the butter icing by mixing the butter until soft

5 - Add the icing sugar a few tablespoons at a time and finally add the cocoa powder

6 - Spread the chocolate butter icing over the top of the cake

7 - Place the Malteasers into a bag and crush slightly

8 - Sprinkle the crushed Malteasers over the butter icing

This cake is a delicious treat. The added malt in the sponge complements the Malteaser topping perfectly and creates a lovely light sponge.

Enjoy x
